3 ways to make sure your dating profile stands out

These days, the people who have a profile on a dating site far outnumber the people who don’t.  Chances are good that your best friend, your brother or your Mom are all looking for love online…and you probably are too.  The increase in online dating popularity is great when it comes to providing more dating options, but it also means that your profile needs to stand out from the crowd.  Here are three ways to stand out and get noticed by the right people.

1. Be specific.  Guess what?  EVERYONE likes to laugh, try new restaurants or be around family and friends.  While laughing, eating and spending time with the ones you love are all wonderful things, putting this in your profile does nothing to set you apart from the crowd.  Break it down a bit-what makes you laugh? What restaurant did you try recently that blew your mind it was so good? What exactly about your friends and family do you adore so much?
2. Put some effort into it.  So many dating profiles are full of short answers, boring headlines and standard descriptions of what the person is looking for.  We’re not saying you need to write a novel, but putting effort and time into your profile immediately shows people that you’re serious about finding love and you’ll naturally attract people who are right there with you.
3. Be approachable. Using technology for dating isn’t any different than meeting people at a bar.  If you’re standing in the corner with your arms crossed and a death stare on your face, nobody is going to want to talk to you.  Your dating profile isn’t the place to vent about your bad day, complain about dates gone wrong or whine about your broken heart.  You’ve got to be someone that people actually want to hang out with, even if it’s only virtually…for now.
